Meet Our President
Mark is a native of Washington, D.C. He began his Federal career with the Social Security Administration in 1977, as a file clerk. In February 1996, he became the first African American to hold the position of Budget Officer. In that capacity, he was responsible for the formulation, presentation and execution of the agency’s second largest administrative, programmatic and information technology systems budget of over $700 million.
In May 2000, Mark was accepted into the Senior Executive Service and was appointed as the Associate Commissioner of the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity. He was responsible for providing executive leadership and national direction for the agency’s equal opportunity programs and diversity activities for 65,000 employees.
Outside of his professional commitments, Mark has frequently supported and led community organizations to help the youth. For six years, Mark held a seat on the Board of Directors of the Covenant House of Washington D. C., a non-profit organization that helps homeless and at-risk youth. During his last two years, he served as Chairman of the Board during 2012 and 2013.
Mark holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Knoxville College and a master’s of public administration from Howard University.

The Foundations’ vision is for professional men to show a greater presence in our community through volunteerism. Our impact will be represented through role modeling, mentoring, structured involvement and open access to economic scholarships, physical presence, personal resources and community service.
The Foundation will address disparities that impact youth and communities while empowering them to acquire the necessary skills and resources that lead to lifelong success.
